Fuvahmulah

As our first expedition we expected some issues to arrive throughout the experience, which they did. First we’ll cover the bad – Both the food and accomodation was not as expected and left the guests of our first trip feeling disappointed. Unfortunately we had to stick with the hotel but once we brought the food issue up with the relevant staff they were quick to resolve the problem. A few of the guests, and our trip leader got sick from the initial food, so we demanded to eat elsewhere. After testing out a few of the islands ‘best’ restaurants we fell on Cafe Eden, the No.1 rated restaurant on the island, great affordable food. For our upcoming trips we’ll be eating at Cafe Eden with a half board meal plan, and to top it off we’ll be staying at the connected Wanderlust Hotel. A boutique hotel nestled in the backdrop of the Fuvahmulah jungle.

Now for the good, the staff work incredibly hard to give us the best stay possible and were one of the highlights of the trip, shout out out to Hassan for being the legend both in and out of the water. The diving itself was incredible, the reefs of Fuvahmulah are some of the healthiest in the Maldives, theres an abundance of fish and other marine life. We weren’t lucky enough to see any pelagic species, but knowing we potentially could was an added bonus! (Other groups did the week after we left!). What we did learn quickly was that they have a unique way of handling their operation, in fact most of the islands dive shops do. Our first expedition was open to divers of any level, for future trips we ask for advanced or above due to the nature of the dives, they are deep.

All in all it was a fantastic trip, with some ups and downs and a learning experience for us. So going into the next trip we can be more prepared.
