This design brings together five of the ocean’s most vital predators — the great white, tiger shark, whale shark, hammerhead, and more — not as separate animals, but as one statement: sharks, in all their variety, are essential to a healthy ocean. From the great white’s role as an apex predator shaping entire food chains, to the whale shark’s quiet work filtering plankton by the ton, to the hammerhead’s uniquely wide-set eyes giving it near-360-degree vision for hunting — every species on this design plays a different, irreplaceable part in keeping marine ecosystems in balance.
Despite over 70% of shark and ray populations being lost globally in the last 50 years, sharks remain one of the most misunderstood animals in the ocean — feared far more than they threaten. This shirt is RTTO’s statement on that: sharks aren’t the villain of the ocean story, they’re one of its most essential characters.

meet the artist
Originally from Iceland, Stefán — of Styngvi Studio — brings this design to life in pen and linework, working with no reference at all. Known online as an “artivist,” Stefán has spent his career using illustration to communicate conservation issues for organizations and brands that care about the planet, turning complex ideas into images that make people stop, look, and care. That same instinct runs through this piece — five sharks, drawn entirely from his own hand and understanding of each species, brought together to make RTTO’s case for why sharks matter.

About PROJECT HIU
This design supports Project Hiu, an Indonesian nonprofit founded by shark conservationist Madison Stewart, based in Lombok — one of the world’s largest shark fishing hubs. Rather than fighting fishermen, Project Hiu works directly with them: converting shark fishing boats and their crews into shark tourism operations, giving fishermen a sustainable income that doesn’t depend on catching sharks. Since launching, the project has kept an estimated 100,000 shark fins out of the market and funded local English teachers, giving the next generation on the island options beyond the fishing fleet.
