Arrival & Day 1

No two days in the ocean are ever the same. While we have a planned structure for the expedition, we keep our schedule flexible to make the most of the conditions, marine life activity and opportunities that arise.
Our goal is simple: maximise your time in the water and create the best possible experience in one of the world’s greatest shark diving destinations.
Welcome to Fuvahmulah, Maldives!
Arrive on the island and meet your fellow expedition guests before settling into your accommodation at Hikers Villa.
You’ll receive a welcome briefing from the Liquid Shark Divers team, prepare your dive equipment and learn more about what to expect during your week exploring Shark Island.
The evening is yours to relax, explore the island and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Please Note – This itinerary is designed to provide the best possible expedition experience while allowing flexibility for weather, sea conditions and wildlife encounters.
The ocean is in control—and that’s what makes every Return to the Ocean expedition unique.
DAY 2 - FIRST DIVES

Your first full day begins with a boat transfer to the marina with the Liquid Shark Divers team.
After a thorough equipment check, you’ll complete your check dive to ensure everyone is comfortable and ready for the week ahead.
Depending on conditions, your second dive will be either a beautiful reef dive exploring Fuvahmulah’s marine ecosystem or your first unforgettable tiger shark dive.
This is where the adventure truly begins.
DAYS 3 TO 7 - EXPLORING FUVAHMULAHS UNDERWATER WORLD

The following days are dedicated to experiencing the incredible diving that has made Fuvahmulah famous around the world.
A typical day will include:
🦈 Tiger Shark Dive
Come face-to-face with one of the ocean’s most iconic apex predators in their natural environment.
🌊 Deep Blue Pelagic Dive
Explore the open ocean and search for encounters with Fuvahmulah’s incredible pelagic species.

🧬 A shark science presentation from the team at MIYARU, learning more about shark research and conservation.
Final Full Day - A different perspective

Because we need to allow a minimum of 24 hours between your final scuba dive and flying, your last day above the water offers a unique experience.
Depending on conditions, you may have the opportunity to:
🦈 Freedive with tiger sharks
Experience these incredible animals in a completely different way without scuba equipment.
OR
🤿 Snorkel with Oceanic Whitetip Sharks
A rare and unforgettable encounter when conditions allow.
Your final evening concludes with a special Maldivian sunset BBQ, celebrating an incredible week of diving, adventure and new friendships.
Departure Day - until next time

After an incredible week exploring Fuvahmulah, it’s time to say goodbye to Shark Island and the team at Liquid Shark Divers.
There are two scheduled domestic flights departing Fuvahmulah each day—one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Your departure flight will be selected for you based on your onward connection from Malé International Airport.
If you are travelling on the morning flight, the Liquid Shark Divers team will transfer you to the airport for one final goodbye before you begin your journey home.
If you are travelling on the afternoon flight, you’ll have the morning to relax, explore more of Fuvahmulah or enjoy your final moments on the island. The Liquid Shark Divers team will collect you from your accommodation and transfer you to the airport for your final farewell.
Please note that domestic flights in the Maldives can occasionally experience delays or schedule changes, so we recommend allowing flexibility when planning your onward travel.
You’ll leave Fuvahmulah with incredible memories, new friendships and hopefully a camera full of unforgettable ocean moments.
Who is the expedition for
Who Is This Expedition For?
The Return to the Ocean Fuvahmulah Expedition is for ocean lovers, adventure seekers and anyone who wants to experience the underwater world in a way that changes their perspective forever.
This expedition is for those who want to move beyond simply seeing sharks as predators and instead understand them as incredible, essential animals that deserve respect and protection. Whether you arrive with a lifelong fascination for sharks or you’re looking to overcome a fear of them, our goal is to create a safe, educational and unforgettable experience that changes the way you see these incredible animals.
Through storytelling, conservation, photography and world-class diving, we aim to create more than just a dive trip — we create experiences that stay with you long after you leave the water.
With two experienced expedition guides alongside a locally operated dive team at Liquid Shark Divers, you’ll be supported throughout the journey by people who understand both the ocean and the unique conditions of Fuvahmulah.
Diving Experience Requirements
While some operators in Fuvahmulah welcome Open Water certified divers, we believe that the best and safest way to experience the island’s underwater world requires a higher level of training and experience.
Fuvahmulah is a unique dive destination. The island sits directly above deep ocean environments, with steep drop-offs, strong currents and encounters that can take place in challenging conditions. The Maldives has a maximum recreational diving depth limit of 30 metres, and exceeding this depth is outside recommended recreational limits and at the diver’s own risk.
Although an Open Water certification allows you to dive to 18 metres, limiting yourself to this depth means you may miss some of the incredible underwater experiences that make Fuvahmulah so special.
For this reason, all guests joining the expedition must hold:
✓ PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification
OR
✓ An equivalent advanced certification from another recognised training agency
You do not need to be a professional diver — but you do need to be comfortable, confident and capable in the water.
This expedition is designed for divers who understand their limits, can manage themselves underwater and want to experience Fuvahmulah responsibly while making the most of every incredible moment beneath the surface.
Your safety, enjoyment and experience are always our priority.
